From December 3rd all NL Alert messages will also be displayed on the departure boards in public transport. On that day the government will also send a test message, NOS repots.

Posting alerts on public transport boards is in line with NL Alert's aim to reach as many people as possible. NL Alerts are used to warn the public of a disaster, for example.

NS is critical about the, which also covers train tickets, from 6 to 9 percent. According to the rail company, this will make public transport more expensive compared to the car, and NS worries that more people will opt for the car instead, NOS reports.

The price for train tickets and subscriptions will increase on January 1st. According to NS, the increase is mainly due to the VAT increase.

From today individual travelers can pay for their public transit at the end of the month, instead of needing to have money on your public transit card and paying at the end of every trip. The new service, NS Flex, applies to all forms of public transport - trains, bus, tram, and subway, RTL Nieuws.

Nine people were injured in a rear-end collision between two trams on Dwasdijk in Rotterdam on Sunday afternoon.

One victim sustained a head injury, according to ANP. The others had neck complaints, among other things. Four people were taken to hospital for examination. One was referred to a GP. And the other four were treated by paramedics at the scene.

The collision involved tram 23 and the Feyenoord tram. The authorities are investigating how the accident happened.

Picking someone up or dropping someone off near the terminal at Schiphol may soon cost money. The Amsterdam airport is considering charging for so-called 'kiss & ride', the airport confirmed to NOS after a report in the Telegraaf.

How much it will cost, and when the rates will be implemented, is not yet clear. Schiphol is currently investigating the plan.

Bus drivers faced intimidation during a nationwide regional public transit strike on Wednesday. According to employers association VWOV, drivers who decided to work were faced with striking colleagues taking photos of them and buses buses being blocked at the gate. According to union FNV, it was the other way around and the striking drivers were intimidated, RTL Nieuws reports.

Due to a national strike in regional public transit, virtually no city- or regional buses will run from today. Some regional trains could also fall out. NS trains, and public transit in Amsterdam and The Hague are unaffected. Rotterdam is partly affected.

Regional public transit workers across the Netherlands will strike from Wednesday, unions CNV and FNV confirmed. Mediators' attempt to make a new collective bargaining agreement for this sector failed, ANP reports.

CNV called on its members to strike for 72 hours starting on Wednesday morning. "Unfortunately, we would've like to see this end differently", CNV negotiator Jean-Marie Severijns said.

A nationwide strike in regional public transit has been postponed until Wednesday, June 27th. This is to give mediators more time to come to a solution in the deadlocked collective bargaining agreement talks between unions and employers, union CNV said, AD reports.

A regional public transit strike will start on Monday, be nationwide and will last as long it takes. The strike will affect regional buses and trains operated by regional transporters throughout the country, NU.nl reports.

Regional public transit workers that are members of union FNV will be striking on Monday, the union announced on Tuesday, NOS reports.

According to FNV, employers are refusing to make agreements on lowering public transit workers' workload and on a decent wage increase for the workers.

The union did not say what regions will be affected or how long the strike will last.

Utrecht wants to build a second intercity station and a new tram line or express bus lane to cope with the region's explosive growth. The city and province therefore asked the national government for billions of euros to achieve this, Utrecht traffic alderman Lot van Hooijdonk confirmed to NOS.

Utrecht is the fastest growing region in the Netherlands, with some 140 thousand new homes set to be built in the province over the next 12 years.

The drivers of regional buses and trains are , bringing regional public transit to a stand still. The public transit in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague will run as usual, as these employees fall under a separate collective bargaining agreement. NS trains are also not affected.

Regional buses and -trains will not be operating across the Netherlands on Monday and Tuesday. The court gave workers permission to strike, AD reports.

The regional bus and train drivers are striking for a lower workload, more training and breaks to use the bathroom. Unions FVN and CNV announced the strike earlier this week.

The municipality of Amsterdam is taking extra measures to manage the crowds of tourists expected to visit the city over Easter weekend. Last Easter weekend 20 to 25 percent more tourists visited the Dutch capital than the year before, Het Parool reports.

Extra trams will run during Easter weekend, from March 30th to April 2nd. Lines 1, 2, 5, 5 and 9 will run on an extended timetable. The city will advice visitors with cars to park on a site on the outskirts of the city, and to use public transit from there.

Eurostar is launching a new direct high speed train route between Amsterdam and London, the company announced on Friday. From April 4th there will be two fast trains a day between the Netherlands and United Kingdom. Tickets start from 40 euros per seat, one way.

The train will also stop at Rotterdam. This new service was preceded by a comprehensive testing of the Netherlands high speed network and the building of Eurostar terminals in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

The government is investing over 300 million euros into expanding the rail network between Den Haag and Rotterdam, the ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management announced on Monday. By 2025 this route will run eight intercity trains and six sprinters per hour, which means a train every five minutes.

Dutch rail company NS dealt with 117 major train traffic disruptions last year, 29 more than the 88 major disruptions in 2016, a spokesperson for NS confirmed to NU.nl.

A train traffic disruption is considered "major" if trains together had a delay of at least 25 hours, or at least 25 trains weren't running. NS could not comment on the cause of the disruptions. "We do not yet have an analysis of the disruptions. But we will have that at the presentation of our annual report on 1 March", the spokesperson said to the newspaper.

After a massive storm did on Thursday, NS and ProRail expect that trains will mostly run according to schedule on Friday. Repair work is still being done on some routes and there may be some last minute changes to the train schedule today.

Dutch labor union FNV has announced a massive regional transit strike scheduled to take place on Thursday that will shut down many public transportation routes including tram lines in Utrecht. The planned action is because workers could not get guarantees to reduce job stress, and a proposed salary increase is smaller than demanded.

Timo Huges, former CEO of Dutch rail company NS, was acquitted of fraud in the tender process for public transport in Limburg by the court in Den Bosch on Thursday. Five other suspects of fraud in this case were also acquitted, NU.nl reports.

On Monday trade unions CNV Vakmensen and FNV announced labor actions and a possible nationwide, 24 hour long public transit strike on January 4th. These actions are the result of talks on a new collective bargaining agreement for public transit workers collapsing last month, Financieele Dagblad reports. 

The current collective bargaining agreement expires on January 1st. It covers over 12 thousand public transit employees.
