Princess Beatrix participated in NLdoet - a major annual volunteer action by the Oranje Fonds - on Friday. The former Queen, prince Bernhard and princess Annette, actively helped making learning and play materials and preparing the garden for spring at children's day center Onder een Dak in Amersfoort, RTL Nieuws reports.

The day center teaches kids and teens with intellectual disabilities how to deal with daily activities.

This year the Royal Family will cost the government budget, and Dutch taxpayers, 41.4 million euros, according to Business Insider. That includes the "constitutional benefit" for King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and Princess Beatrix as well as expense compensation for them.

King Willem-Alexander emphasized the importance of cooperating with NATO, the United Nations and Europe in his traditional New Year's speech on Tuesday. According to him, "a highly developed country like the Netherlands can not be indifferent to developments in the wider world", AD reports. 

Peace, freedom, stability and prosperity don't just happen, the King said. "Without our international partners it is simply impossible. It is therefore good if our voice continues to be heard in Europe, the UN, NATO and everywhere people think past their borders."

Biodiversity museum Naturalis in Leiden have chosen a name for their Tyrannosaurus Rex, which will be displayed in their Plague House from September 10th. The dinosaur is a female and can thus be seen as the Queen of the Dinosaurs. Naturalis therefore decided to name her Trix, in honor of former Dutch Queen Beatrix, the museum announced on Thursday.

Princess Beatrix has broken her cheekbone through an 'unfortunate' fall. That happened in her domestic environment, let the Government Information Service (RVD) know on Sunday.

Beatrix has already been operated on Sunday and will have to stay a few days in the hospital. "The princess will then recover further at home in Huis ten Bosch," announced the RVD. In which hospital the former queen was operated and staying is unknown.
