Major fire leaves apartments in a residential complex in Groningen uninhabitable

More than a dozen apartments in a residential building in the Oosterhamriklaan in Groningen are uninhabitable due to a major fire. The fire broke out shortly before 5:30 a.m. in an apartment on the first floor. Because many senior citizens live in the building and many people had to be evacuated, the fire department was on site with many units.

The major fire was brought under control at around 6:15 a.m. on Saturday and the fire chief's signal was given. According to the fire department, the fire caused considerable damage.

RTV Noord reports that the fire has made several homes uninhabitable. Thirteen residents who are currently unable to return to their homes have been accommodated in the nearby Hamrikheem apartment. It is not yet known when they will be able to return.

To bring the residents to safety, the fire department evacuated the first two floors of the building. Some of the residents on the third floor were also evacuated the regional broadcaster reports.

According to the safety region, several people were examined by paramedics. However, RTV Noord reports that it has not yet been confirmed whether any residents were injured by the fire. The residents and their pets from the evacuated building were brought to safety nearby.
