An ABN Amro ATM on Gildeplein in Purmerend was blown open early on Thursday morning. A few hours after the ATM bombing, emergency services discovered a suspicious object they think may be an explosive that hasn't detonated. The Ministry of Defense's explosives clearance service is at the scene, the police said in a statement.
The police in Amsterdam freed a 30-year-old man who was tied to a fence next to a burning car early on Friday morning. The victim was taken to hospital with unknown injuries. How the man came to be tied to a fence, and how he sustained his injuries, is not yet known, NU.nl reports.
The fire brigade and police responded to the car fire on Tom Schreursweg at around 3:20 a.m. At the scene, firefighters and cops heard the man calling for help.
The man was not tied up right next to the burning car, but a distance away, a spokesperson for the police said to NU.nl.
Mayor Pauline Krikke of The Hague was convinced that the New Year's bonfires on the Scheveningen and Duindorp beaches "could safely burn", she said to her city council on Wednesday. A sea of sparks blown from the Scheveningen bonfire caused multiple fires in Scheveningen over New Year's.
A family from Maastricht became unwell due to a carbon monoxide leak in their home on Eyckeroed. The two adults and three children were all admitted to hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning, NOS reports.
The source of the carbon monoxide leak is not yet known. The fire department reports that all five victims are still in hospital, but in a stable condition.
The family's home was ventilated and the police are now investigating the cause.
A 29-year-old man from Barendrecht was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the death of 29-year-old Bianca van Es from Rotterdam. Stephan K. was Bianca's ex boyfriend. She ended their relationship a few days before her death, several sources told newspaper AD.
A large fire is raging at recycling company Talen Afvalrecycling in Meppel on Thursday morning. The residents of 10 nearby houseboats were evacuated and are currently accommodated in the fire station, NOS reports.

An hours long search for a missing boy on the IJsselmeer had a happy ending on Monday night. The 13-year-old from Urk was found alive and well on Houtribdijk near IJsselmeer, the Coast Guard said on Twitter.
The boy took a sloop onto the IJsselmeer from Urk early on Monday evening, according to NU.nl. When he did not return home, a large search involving a helicopter and multiple lifeboats from rescue organization KNRM was launched. The coast guard, a few fishing cutters, the fire brigade and the police also helped in the search.
Four children were injured after in an explosion on a boat in Amstelveen on Saturday. One child ended up in the water. The explosion occurred when the boat's engine was started, a spokesperson for the fire brigade said to RTL Nieuws.
All four children sustained minor burns and were taken to hospital. According to the fire brigade spokesperson, they're all primary school age.
The boat did not sustain significant damage. "It was probably a big flame", the spokesperson said to the broadcaster.

The residents could only go back home around 10 hours later. On Saturday night, another truck was found leaking ecstasy waste on the same street, Brabants Dagblad report.
Liander seriously endangered a number of firefighters during a fire in a transformer house along the rails in Hilversum on Saturday, according to mayor Pieter Broertjes. The energy supplier stated that the power was shut down remotely, but when the fire brigade started extinguishing the fire, the building was still under high voltage, the mayor wrote in a letter to the Hilversum city council, NOS reports.

A building that burned down in Bergen op Zoom on Monday night contained an illegal cigarette factory. Tens of thousands of packets of cigarettes were found between the rubble of the burned building on Tuesday morning, Omroep Brabant reports.

For years the Amsterdam fire brigade made extra payments to staff against the rules, according to a report by the forensic investigation office Integis. A total of nearly 4 million euros was illegally paid out to firefighters and other staff members, Integis concluded after launching an investigation at the request of local safety office Veiligheidsregio Amsterdam-Amstelland.
A 6-year-old boy was killed in a major traffic accident on the N99 near Breezand in Noord-Holland on Thursday. Four other people were injured and taken to hospital, the police said on Twitter.
The accident happened late in the morning on the road between Den Helder and Den Over, near Breezand, according to AD. A truck and multiple cars were involved in the collision. The police, fire brigade, an air ambulance and various ambulances responded to the scene.

The Wednesday storm that blew across the Netherlands with wind speeds peaking at 141 kilometers per hour caused roughly 10 million euros in damage to homes and vehicles, the insurance association Verbond van Verzekeraars (VvV) announced on Thursday. A full year of storms cause physical damage of roughly 50 million euros, a spokesperson told broadcaster NOS.
Commander Lucien Groenewegen of the Haaglanden fire brigade calls on people in the large Dutch cities to extinguish small fires themselves during New Year's. In this way they can take some pressure off firefighters on what is traditionally a very busy night for them, he said to the Telegraaf.
"Obviously only when it comes to fires that people can extinguish themselves", Groenewegen said. "Citizens must alert us immediately if people are in danger or cars can catch fire."
