Video: Two killed in fire at residential care center for elderly in Bussum
Two residents died in a fire at a residential care center for elderly people in Bussum on Tuesday evening. One of the victims was the resident of the apartment where the fire broke out. The second victim lived a few floors higher. They became unwell several hours after the building was evacuated and then died, NH Nieuws reported.
Six other people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. They are two other residents, two staff members, and two firefighters. According to the local security region, their condition is stable.
The fire broke out at around 8:00 p.m. on the second floor of the residential care center on Jozef Israëlslaan in Bussum. Firefighters quickly got the blaze under control. The police are investigating the cause.
The fire caused significant damage, leaving ten apartments uninhabitable. The residents of these homes are temporarily staying at one of the care center’s other locations.
