Princess Beatrix helps out at Amersfoort children's day center for NLdoet

Princess Beatrix participated in NLdoet - a major annual volunteer action by the Oranje Fonds - on Friday. The former Queen, prince Bernhard and princess Annette, actively helped making learning and play materials and preparing the garden for spring at children's day center Onder een Dak in Amersfoort, RTL Nieuws reports.

The day center teaches kids and teens with intellectual disabilities how to deal with daily activities.

Princess Beatrix performed her tasks very energetically, according to the broadcaster. "We're not here for a joke. Do it seriously", she admonished Oranje Fonds director Peter Douwes when he seemed to be slacking. Beatrix hammered, drilled and gave directions as if she had been doing it all her life.

After helping with he play materials, she went into the garden and playground where she got help from a few of the present children. "Just ignore them", she advised the kids when they got distracted by the gathering media.

This is the 14th year of NLdoet. On Saturday an expected 375 thousand volunteers will help out in more than 10,500 activities, according to the broadcaster. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima will also volunteer, though when and where was not announced.
