Dutch public health agency RIVM said there were 9,762 people who tested positive for coronavirus in the Netherlands on Saturday, an increase of 1,159 over Friday's total. The agency added that 93 more people who tested positive later died, bringing the total number of Dutch fatal cases to 639.
Intensive care units throughout the Netherlands will be filled with coronavirus patients for months yet to come, Nico van ’t Hullenaar, a Pulmonologist at the Bernhoven Hospital in Uden, expects. And it is not only patients with Covid-19 who will die due to this virus, he said to NRC.
Tilburg and Breda, the two cities in the Netherlands home to the most patients with coronavirus, were also the two cities with the biggest increase in patients since Sunday. Both cities are located in the Noord-Brabant province, where at least 554 of the country's 1,413 patients reside.
The patient data released by the RIVM showed that 249 of the country's 355 municipalities are home to at least one coronavirus patient. All 12 provinces in the Netherlands now have at least 10 people who have been screened by health officials and diagnosed with the virus.
Two patients diagnosed separately with coronavirus in the Netherlands died in their hospital beds this weekend, health agency RIVM confirmed. In the past 24 hours, another 77 have tested positive for the Covid-19 strain of the virus making the country's total number of patients 265, a 41 percent increase.
The patients who passed away include an 86-year-old man who was being treated at the Bernhoven Hospital in Uden, and an 82-year-old man at the Zuyderland Medical Center in Sittard-Geleen. "The source of these patients' infection is under investigation," the RIVM stated.
A 61-year-old man from Uden was stabbed and assaulted by three young men while he was waiting for an online date in Tilburg on Monday night, the police said in a statement on Tuesday. The police are looking for the perpetrators.
The man was waiting in his car on Alpenlaan at around 10:00 p.m. when the car door opened. One young man stabbed the man in the side and cut his cheek. They took his car keys and walked away.
A fairground operator in Uden lost four trucks to a fire around 4:30 a.m. on Friday. His fairground attraction - Encounter - was completely destroyed. The police believe arson was involved, Omroep Brabant reports.
The fire department found two bottles and a jerry can containing a flammable liquid near where the trucks were parked on Boekelsedijk.

The police raided at least 15 locations in the south of the Netherlands on Monday morning as part of an ongoing investigation into drug production and trafficking. Six people were arrested, ANP reports.
In Echt, Limburg, the police found thousands of liters of raw materials used in the production of synthetic drugs. A drug lab and storage were found in Zaltbommel.

Minister Hugo de Jonge of Public Health calls it "very worrisome" that the so-called suicide powder claimed a victim. A 19-year-old girl from Uden in Noord-Brabant committed suicide using the drug three weeks ago. She ordered it online, ANP reports.

Two girls, aged 13 and 14 years, were arrested in Uden on Tuesday morning on suspicion of robbing and threatening a 15 year old girl from Been en Donk with a knife.
The police in Dubai have arrested real estate tycoon Roger Lips. Lips has been a fugitive for 13 months. The controversial businessman, who was partly responsible for the near-collapse of the SNS bank, is suspected by the judiciary in the Netherlands of money laundering and large-scale bankruptcy fraud.
