Over 30% of Noord-Brabant coronavirus patients reside in Tilburg, Breda

Tilburg and Breda, the two cities in the Netherlands home to the most patients with coronavirus, were also the two cities with the biggest increase in patients since Sunday. Both cities are located in the Noord-Brabant province, where at least 554 of the country's 1,413 patients reside.

The patient data released by the RIVM showed that 249 of the country's 355 municipalities are home to at least one coronavirus patient. All 12 provinces in the Netherlands now have at least 10 people who have been screened by health officials and diagnosed with the virus.

In Breda another 15 people tested positive, bringing their total up to 86, while Tilburg increased its own total to 84 after 16 more positive cases were recorded. Uden (43), also in Noord-Brabant, and Utrecht (48) also recorded ten more patients, while Amersfoort (18), Amsterdam (39), and Meierijstad, Noord-Brabant (42) found eight new patients each.

With three new positive diagnoses since Sunday, Maastricht found itself home to 24 of Limburg's 149 patients. The province has seen a tripling of it's patients acquiring the virus in five days. The continued spread of coronavirus was the main reason the city and province cancelled a planned visit by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima on King's Day, and the celebration that was to take place.

Again, Noord-Brabant showed the biggest increase per province, with 108 new cases. Gelderland (135) reported 35 more patients, and Utrecht (140) reported 31. There were 26 more patients reported in Zuid-Holland (136), and 25 more in Noord-Holland (115).

The hometowns of 70 people were still under investigation on Monday, the RIVM said.
