Over 300 Amsterdam businesses will fly the rainbow flag on Saturday to spread the message that senseless violence against the LGBTQ community must stop. This follows drag queen Monique de la Fressange beinglate last month, Het Parool reports.

Amsterdam alderman Jan-Bert Vroege (D66) accused entrepreneurs and hotel owners in the city of profiteering from Gay Pride, without giving anything back, in a letter to Het Parool. Supermarket chain Albert Heijn and clubs Paradiso and Westerunie are astonished by this accusation, according to the newspaper.

For the first time ever in the Netherlands, a woman will lead the Islamic Friday Prayers. This will happen during a meeting in Paradiso in Amsterdam, Het Parool reports.

The woman in question is Amina Wadud, an Islamic theologian from the United States. She is known for her fight for women's rights. Wadud is visiting the Netherlands at the invitation of Hasna El Maroudi. 

Wadud is leading the Friday Prayers from the Paradiso because no mosque in the country would allow a woman to do so, three mosque dome organizations said to newspaper Trouw.

Dutch DJ Martin Garrix will be giving a benefit show for charity War Child in Amsterdam's Paradiso on February 21st. All proceeds for this once-off show will go towards the organization, which helps children in conflict zones, AD reports.

A tribute to George Michael is being organized at the Paradiso music hall in Amsterdam for January 16th. So far little is known about the concert except that it will be led by the New Amsterdam Orchestra and that the tickets will be free, but have to be booked, Het Parool reports. 

The artists that will perform is not yet known. 

Tickets can be reserved from Friday, December 30th at noon.

Ten thousand candles are lit in the Amsterdam ArenA on Tuesday for World Aids Day. This is done on the initiative of Stop Aids Now to commemorate the more than a million people who die from the disease every year.

World-famous German electronic music group Kraftwerk will spend eight consecutive evenings on the main stage of Amsterdam's Paradiso, the band said. The band plans to perform one of their top eight albums during each performance, followed by sets made up of their additional work.

The first unexpected occurrence of Prince on Sunday evening in pop temple Paradiso in Amsterdam, lasted for some fans only briefly. They were expelled during the concert, because they took pictures of the pop star with their iPhone. Before the show the fans were warned that this was not allowed.

Prince gave Sunday evening the first of two surprise concerts at the Amsterdam pop temple.

After an hour one of the fans twittered: "Was a nice hour Prince, until I was kicked out because of making 2 Iphone pictures. Many other people with me too."
