Humility comes easier than fame for EDM star Mosimann, even as he eyes arena dates

For a DJ who won the 2008 edition of the French reality show "Star Academy," Mosimann is surprisingly down-to-earth about his continuing rise. While he hopes to sell out the massive 19,000-seat Accor Arena in Paris on Oct. 16, 2027, the electronic dance music star remains acutely aware of the sacrifices his fans make just to see him perform. Now 38, he has been performing for more than half his life, and yet he is still amazed people make travel plans and book babysitters just to see him on stage.

"There's like a process to go to a concert," Mosimann says during the latest episode of the Dam Yankee podcast. "And people are doing that for me. And this is like the biggest proof of love, you know? It's crazy when you think about it." The show is now on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and more services

That grounded nature is part of what makes his upcoming Friday night gig at Paradiso in Amsterdam so special. After all, nobody knows how long techno fans will get to see the French performer play in such a setting, instead of a massive stadium. "I feel I need to prove myself every time I play," he stresses.

For now, Mosimann still craves the intimacy of smaller venues to connect with his audience and test his creative limits before he hits major summer dates like Vestrock 2026 in Hulst on next month, a spot during the 24H du Mans on June 13, and an appearance at Tomorrowland in July.

Despite holding a spot on DJ Mag's Top 100 list for six years and racking up diamond and platinum records, Mosimann views his global journey as just beginning. He confesses that he hasn't made it to the U.S. yet or had a massive worldwide hit, keeping him hungry. In fact, he uses his massive online presence not just to promote his music, but to engage in bizarre, viral collaborations known as "Dream Tracks."

The concept is simple but demanding: Mosimann asks celebrities what their ultimate fantasy song would sound like, and he produces it. But it doesn't always go according to plan, especially when Hollywood A-listers get involved with wild ideas.

"For example, I was doing the last one was with Hugh Jackman," Mosimann laughs, recounting a time he interviewed Jackman and Kate Hudson during their press tour. "He asked me like the scream of his character on the... The Wolverine," he explains. Meanwhile, Hudson ended up dropping the line, "Scream for me, Baby," which Mosimann figured out a way to blend into the track, which was meant to be lighthearted, if not a satire of the genre he loves.

"But of course, when Hugh Jackman is asking me to scream the Wolverine? I can't release this song," he says with a laugh.

When he takes the stage at Paradiso on Friday, fans won't just see a DJ pressing play. Mosimann blurs the line between producer and frontman, utilizing complex loopers and instruments to build an entire track in real-time. It is a chaotic, high-wire act that honors his musical roots while cementing his underground credibility as a live performer who interacts directly with his crowd.

"I can stack a piece of piano, a piece of drums, a piece of me singing or scratching," Mosimann explains. "And I can create a new story in front of the people."

The contrast between the intimate, experimental set he will play in Amsterdam and the massive spectacle planned for the Accor Arena perfectly encapsulates his career. Will he successfully balance the underground grit with his rising superstar status? Tune into the full episode to find out.
