One killed in stabbing on Roermond street; Suspect arrested

A person died in Roermond on Monday after someone stabbed them on the street. The police have a suspect in custody.

The stabbing happened around 7:00 p.m. on Joost van der Kerchovestraat. First responders tried to resuscitate the victim, but it was to no avail. The victim died at the scene.

Officers cordoned off the area for a forensic investigation.

The police shared a description of the suspect on Burgernet, but later told NU.nl that someone had been arrested.

The spokesperson could not comment on the motive for the stabbing. “An investigation will have to determine what happened here,” they told the newspaper.

The police have not shared any information regarding the identities of the victim or the suspect, or whether they knew each other.
