Amsterdam businesses fly rainbow flag after attack on drag queen

Over 300 Amsterdam businesses will fly the rainbow flag on Saturday to spread the message that senseless violence against the LGBTQ community must stop. This follows drag queen Monique de la Fressange being assaulted in the city late last month, Het Parool reports.

This action was thought up by drag queen Diva MayDay and Donnie Bergsma, owner of Disco Dolly. Following the attack on Monique de la Fressange, they decided a joint gesture was needed. "Support for the LGBTQ community", MayDay and Bergsma said. "Hopefully this action will bring more awareness to the general public."

Businesses participating in this action include De School, Disco Dolly and Jimmy Woo. The A'DAM tower, Paradiso and Melkweg will cover their facades in rainbow colors on Saturday.
