Drag queen assaulted in Amsterdam; police seek witnesses

Drag queen Monique de la Fressange was assaulted by three men on the Prins Hendrikkade in Amsterdam during the early hours of Sunday morning. The police are looking for witnesses.

The victim was waiting for a taxi in front of a hotel on Prins Hendrikkade around 2:10 a.m. on Sunday when she was approached by three men. The men threatened and insulted her. They left, but came back almost immediately.

The situation escalated and one of the men headbutted the victim, injuring her. "The man laughed at the injuries", the police said in a statement. The victim decided to walk away.

De la Fressange described the man who headbutted her as having tanned skin with short, dark hair. He is between 25 and 30 years old, and shorter than 1.85 meters. One of the other two men with him is white with blonde hair and also shorter than 1.85 meters.

The police are investigating the incident. As the victim is a drag queen, investigators are also looking at whether discrimination was involved. The police call on anyone who witnessed this attack to come forward.
