Four Dutch tourists and their Costa Rican guide were injured when they were caught in a landslide while climbing the Arenal volcano in Costa Rica on Friday. "We heard a strange noise and suddenly saw rocks falling down", 30-year-old Pieter Hoeijmakers said to De Limgurger. 

Hoeijmakers broke his arm. The other three Dutch sustained a shifted vertebra in the neck, a broken arm and collar bone, and a head wound respectively. Hoeijmakers and the Dutch man with the head wound are back in their hotel, the other two are still in hospital.

Last year a total amount of 13,312 kilograms of cocaine was intercepted at the port of Rotterdam, breaking the 2013 record of 9,800 kilograms, the Public Prosecutor announced on Wednesday. According to the prosecutor, the number of cocaine seizures did not increase, but the size of them did.

The Public Prosecutor withheld information in the case around 300 kilos of cocaine smuggled from Costa Rica to Rotterdam in 2013, according to the lawyer of suspect Dennis van den B. Customs officer Gerrit G. is also a suspect in this case. If the Prosecutor shared this information, at least two assassinations could have been prevented, the lawyer said in court on Monday, NU.nl reports.

Eleven arrests were made in Costa Rica in connection with the murders of a Dutch couple and a Nicaraguan man in the Central American country in January, RTL Nieuws reports.

Hans Snelders and Sita Dhawtal werein Puntarenas on January 4th. They were handcuffed and shot dead. The foreman of their tree farm, the man from Nicaragua, was also killed.

Customs officers in Rotterdam found some 4 thousand kilograms of cocaine hidden in a pineapple container on June 1st. According to the Public Prosecutor, this is one of the largest cocaine catches ever in the port of Rotterdam.

Henk and Carolien Peters from Duijnhoven were attacked in their bed and breakfast in Costa Rica on Tuesday. Henk posted the footage of the attack, caught on surveillance camera, on Facebook in the hopes that it will help to identify the perpetrators.

A Dutch couple was found murdered in their home on their hardwood plantation in Sardinal, Costa Rica on Monday. The victims were identified as Sita Dhawtal and Hans Snelders. One of their workers, Rivar Avenec Montalban from Nicaragua, was found dead outside in the yard

At the request of Dutch authorities, the judicial authorities in Costa Rica has seized about one million euros in property and bank accounts of a 57 year old Dutchman and his former Spanish life partner. The Dutchman is the prime suspect in an ongoing FIOD investigation into millions worth of fraud involving investments in Spanish solar energy plantations.

After four days off following the penalty shootout victory over Costa Rica, the Netherlands is ready to take on Argentina and go on to win the World Cup, according to Dutch coach Louis van Gaal. He also told NU.nl that if his squad goes into a shootout situation with Argentina on Wednesday night he will try to substitute in goalkeeper Tim Krul again.

The World Cup is an exciting time for a lot of people. For one dog, however, the excitement was a little too much to bear. A room full of people cheering when Dutch substitute goalie Tim Krul saved the second penalty kick by Costa Rica in the shootouts on Sunday was too much for dog Beike from Ede, who took to his heels and fled. The family is still searching for their beloved hound.

The boy suspected to have posted a threat in the forum 4chan.org has recently visited the Dutch Embassy in Costa Rica.

A spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed a report from RTL Nieuws. The 18-year-old boy was found in a hotel in San Jose. He was broke and should have voluntarily gone to the embassy.  The suspect legally entered Costa Rica and thus could continue to stay there. According to RTL, the embassy would be willing to pay for his ticket back home. Costa Rica has no extradition treaty with the Netherlands.

An 18-year-old boy, who is staying in Costa Rica, is suspected as the one who has threatened to do a shooting at a school in Leiden. The suspect is a previous student of a high school in Leiden. The boy has not been arrested. Because he is staying abroad, it is impossible that his threat can be executed. Thus, the police can now stop securing the schools.
