A man responsible for a fatal accident on the A2 highway near Breukelen last month, previously caused at least three other accidents. Two people and the 38-year-old man from Vianen himself were killed in the accident last month. The man suffered from epileptic seizures and his licenses should have been revoked, the newspaper writes.
Two people including an innocent bystander were left injured over the weekend in a string of unrelated violent shooting incidents. Guns were fired in Eindhoven, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam in the days following a fatal shooting in Utrecht, and another crime involving a hand grenade took place in Vianen. Several weapons were also seized in a bust in Rotterdam.
The neighbor of 19-year-old Roos Verschuur, one of three people killed in a shooting on 24 Oktoberplein in Utrecht on Monday, launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the young woman's funeral. Within a day nearly 70 thousand euros was donated. While nothing will bring Roos back, neighbor Martje Beniest wants to do what she can to make things easier for Roos's father, she said to RTL Nieuws.
Three people were injured in an explosion in a home on Bol in Vianen on Thursday afternoon. According to the fire department, an explosive mixture of cleaning products exploded in the house, RTV Utrecht reports.
The victims sustained burns. They were examined by ambulance personnel. The extent of their injuries is unknown.
The fire department did measurements and concluded that a chemical mixture caused the explosion. Whether the chemicals were deliberately mixed to create an explosive is not clear.
The police raided eight buildings in Utrecht, Nieuwengein, Vianen and Tiel on Tuesday morning for as yet unknown reasons. Seven people were arrested, the police said on Twitter.

One person died in a fire at healthcare center Hof van Batestein complex in Vianen on Monday morning. The fire started in a room on the third floor at around 4:30 a.m. Firefighters found the victim in the room after extinguishing the fire, NOS reports.
The fire department quickly got the fire under control. Due to smoke, the residents of other rooms on the third floor were evacuated.
The cause of the fire is not yet clear. The police and fire department are investigating.
A pot containing some 500 silver and gold coins was found during excavation work near the Dutch city of Vianen. The coins date from the 15th century, RTV Utrecht reports.
The pot of coins was discovered by waterworks employees during excavation work for Hoef en Haag, a new town between Vianen and Hagestein. They immediately contacted Utrecht's archeological hotline, who closed off the area and collected the pot and coins.
The police arrested a second suspect in connection with a shooting in IJsselstein on Sunday in which a 37 year old man was killed in front of his daughter.
