Police raid eight buildings in four cities; seven arrested
The police raided eight buildings in Utrecht, Nieuwengein, Vianen and Tiel on Tuesday morning for as yet unknown reasons. Seven people were arrested, the police said on Twitter.
A spokesperson for the police would not tell NU.nl why the raids were done or what the detainees are suspected of, in the interest of the investigation. The spokesperson did say that the detainees are not suspected of terrorism.
Het Parool and De Telegraaf report that the raids are connected to the search for Ridouan T. and Said R., two known criminals wanted for involvement in multiple underworld assassinations. Key witness Nabil B. named T. as the order giver for multiple murders.
The police are still searching the buildings. The area around a building in the Nijpelsplantsoen neighborhood in Nieuwegein is closed off with crime scene tape, according to NU.nl. Omroep Gelderland reports that the police are investigating in De Hennepe district in Tiel.
