Dutch broadcaster Radio 538, DJ Frank Dane and his colleagues are facing criticism over a "prank" they pulled on 20-year-old singer Maan de Steenwinkel over two weeks ago. The DJs sent a streaker - a naked man - to startle De Steenwinkel while she was performing on the radio station. The young woman was so shocked that she burst into tears, ANP reports.
A casting call for Dutch radio station Radio 538's upcoming Winter Olympics coverage has caused anger among many members of the Dutch-Asian community. The job posting is seen by some as specifically promoting an antiquated caricature as it identifies the need for a Korean man who "is instantly recognizable as Korean", and able to speak "defective" Dutch and English. Whoever is hired for the role will be the face of Radio 538's broadcasts on the Olympics, taking place next February in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
The 2015 Flying Dutch festival kicks off on May 30 in Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Rotterdam. The star-studded line-up includes Dutch DJs Afrojack, Armin van Buuren and Fedde Le Grand.
Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan has announced that restaurants, bars, and cafes will be allowed to stay open for an hour later than usual to show Dutch matches in the knockout stages of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. They will also be permitted to put up additional TVs and big screens for the tournament. Cafés with a licensed terrace or patio may place TVs outside, but outside beer taps are still not permitted, according to Dutch newspaper het Parool.
