Dutch drug criminals are increasingly involved in making crystal meth. Over the past year, 10 crystal meth laboratories were dismantled in the Netherlands. "A few years ago, we hardly ever saw it", a police spokesperson said to NRC, calling 2018 a "turning point" in the production of meth.
A 14-year-old boy was convicted and sentenced to one year in a youth detention facility for his role in the death of Romy Nieuwburg, a girl his age from Hoevelaken. The teen boy was also ordered to spend mandatory time in a psychiatric facility, which can be extended to a maximum of seven years.
The sentence is the harshest available for the conviction of a suspect under 16 years of age. It is equivalent to what the prosecutor in the case sought against the Lunteren boy.
On July 11th the police pulled over a delivery van on the A30 near the Gelderland town of Lunteren and found 132 kilograms of heroin and several firearms inside. The driver and passenger were arrested, the police announced on Friday.

Three suspects were arrested in Gelderland on December 9, thought to be importers and dealers of illegal fireworks in the Netherlands. Through the course of their investigation, police say they confiscated eight thousand kilograms of illegal fireworks in the suspects' possession.
