The Netherlands' entered 2017 without any major problems. There were a number minor clashes between police and party goers, but not massive incidents. Emergency services throughout the country had to deal with young people pelting fireworks at them during the course of their duties. 

A police officer in The Hague was seriously injured after being hit by a car. But according to the police, this was an accident - there is no sign of intent, according to the Volkskrant.

A threatening letter was delivered to Dutch broadcaster Omroep Brabant on Monday in which the anonymous letter writer threatens to burn down the Aalburg town hall if more asylum seekers are accepted into the town of Veen or the Aalburg municipality, the broadcaster reports.

Mayor Fons Naterop of the Aalburg municipality has received another threatening letter. The letter was delivered on Monday to the municipality and Omroep Brabant and states that the mayor is "next".

The nearly 100 rioters who were arrested last year in Veen for the New Year's eve riots, will get 200 euro for every night that they were unjustly imprisoned, reports the Algemeen Dagblad.

At least 65 of the 100 people arrested in December last year during the riots in Veen have claimed damages with the Department of Justice. They argue that they were falsely arrested, their lawyer Marc Crombach announces, Omroep Brabant reports.

The Public Prosecution Authority (OM) is still investigating 13 of the 100 people who were arrested in the Veen, Brabant on the 30th of December. These will be prosecuted. For the 87 remaining suspects, the case has been dropped.

Police in the Brabant town of Veen arrested 100 people early Tuesday morning for violently attacking officers there. Police were trying to provide security for firefighters responding to an emergency call when those on the street began launching heavy fireworks at police, and pelting the patrolmen with empty glass bottles.
