A police car chase through the streets of Veen in the early hours of Monday morning ended with the arrest of a 21 year old man that was 15 times over the legal alcohol limit. Patrolling officers noticed the car driving at high speed in Veen at 2:20 a.m. on Monday and decided to pull the driver over. The driver stopped on Lage Akker, but sped off in the direction of Wijk en Aalburg as an officer approached the car. The police gave chase, reaching speeds of well over 100 kilometers per hour in urban areas. The driver turned into Nijverheidstraat, but lost control of his car, flew off the road and hit a road sign. As the car could not go any further, the driver fled on foot. Officers found him hiding in a garden and arrested him. At the police station he was identified as a 21 year old resident of Wijk en Aalburg. A breathalyzer test revealed that he was 15 over the legal alcohol limit. The young man's license was suspended, an official report was drawn up against him and he will have to pay for the damage to municipal property.
