The Polish government reached a deal with a local aristocratic family to buy the family's art collection for 100 million euros. The collection consists of over 300 thousand pieces of art - including a Rembrandt painting and a Leonardo da Vinci - and a library owned by the Czartoryski Foundation. It is valued at over 2 billion euros, Bloomberg reports.

After four months of negotiations the Netherlands and France have reached an agreement on their 160 million euro combined purchase of two Rembrandt portraits. The portraits, set for a lengthy restoration, will first undergo a brief touchup. They will then go on display in Paris for three months before arriving in Amsterdam, the ANP newswire reported on Monday.

The hidden underlying painting shows a young man wrapped in a cloak.

Although the Late Rembrandt exhibition at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam was quite busy, there is still room for more, according to director Wim Pijbes. "There were times when it was very busy, but we did not reach the hourly maximum number of visitors in the halls," Pijbes said to the Parool. "So there is still room for growth."

The Late Rembrandt exhibition in the Rijksmuseum attracted more than half a million visitors. That is 60 thousand more visitors than the previous record - a Rembrandt exhibition in 1969. About 20 percent of the visitors came from abroad.

The Late Rembrandt exhibition is possibly too crowded, Rijksmuseum director Wim Pijbes admitted to NRC Handelsblad on Thursday. In an earlier response to the criticism the exhibit received Pijbes said it's not as bad as in the Sistine Chapel or in front of Mona Lisa, but in his latest statement he says the display is "arguably approaching the boundaries of an enjoyable visit."
