Former Dutch police officer faces 3 years in prison for alleged rape at a party
The Dutch public prosecutor has demanded a three-year prison sentence, including six months suspended, against a 36-year-old former police officer from Roermond accused of raping a 28-year-old woman.
The former agent, who had already been fired, was off duty when he attended a festival in Roermond in the summer of 2025. He later went to an afterparty at the alleged victim's home, according to court proceedings reported by L1 Nieuws on Monday.
The man told the court that the woman seduced him while he was upstairs going to the bathroom. “She kissed me and led me to her bedroom. There we had sex,” he said.
His account directly contradicts the woman's statement. She told investigators she was under the influence of cocaine, had gone to bed, and woke up to find herself being raped. Upon realizing what happened, she immediately called her boyfriend, who was downstairs, and all partygoers were told to leave.
The defendant confirmed that part of the evening. “Someone drove me home because we were being sent away. But why that was, I didn't know at that moment,” he said.
The woman contacted police after the incident. DNA evidence was collected.
In court, her lawyer read a victim impact statement on her behalf: “Later I heard that you work for the police and that hit me even harder. Who can we then be safe with?”
The officer was first suspended and later dismissed following an internal investigation. He had worked seven years as a street officer and then several more years in office roles for police in Venlo and Weert.
He has filed an objection to his dismissal that is still pending.
“I have been sitting at home for a year now in uncertainty. I do have the feeling that injustice has been done to me,” the man said in court. He maintains that the intercourse was consensual.
