Amsterdam portrait artist Edwin van den Dikkenberg gained some international fame this weekend when his painting of former American president Barack Obama went viral online, mistakenly called Obama's official presidential portrait.

The painting was massively discussed on social media, particularly because it depicts Obama wearing a beige suit. In 2014 the president was criticized for this particular clothing choice, because it was considered not to be presidential enough.

A family heirloom accidentally sold on a King's Day flea market, has been tracked down. The painting is now back with its original owner, NOS reports. 

An 11-year-old girl from Blokkerwith her father for only 5 euros. She had no idea that the painting was precious to her mother. And the father did not know his ex still wanted it, as had been in his attic for some time.

An 11-year-old girl from Blokker in Noord-Holland accidentally sold a very valuable family heirloom at the King's Day flea market in Hoorn. The girl went to the flea market with her father to sell some things and afterwards told her mother that she sold "a painting with a lady on it" for 5 euros, RTV Noord-Holland reports.

After four months of negotiations the Netherlands and France have reached an agreement on their 160 million euro combined purchase of two Rembrandt portraits. The portraits, set for a lengthy restoration, will first undergo a brief touchup. They will then go on display in Paris for three months before arriving in Amsterdam, the ANP newswire reported on Monday.

Researchers have determined that a painting kept in storage for years at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri was actually painted by Hieronymus Bosch. Born in Den Bosch, Noord-Brabant, the painter likely produced the work in the early 16th century, newswire ANP reported.

The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam released on its website yesterday that it has received a never before seen painting from Karel Appel, the 2004 painting titled, “Standing in the room no.3”. The American heiress to the Goudstikker family, Marei von Saher, is selling 28 of the 202 paintings that the Dutch government transferred to her nine years ago. The paintings were looted by Nazi officers during the German occupation of the Netherlands in the Second World War, and will go up for bid at Christie's auction house on June 3rd in New York.
