At least 70 boys and young men between the ages of 14 and 22 years are active in prostitution in and around Eindhoven, and not all of them willingly, according to a study by welfare organization Lumens. The municipality of Eindhoven is shocked by these figures, alderman Renate Richters said to Nieuwsuur.

Late last week the police tracked down two bitcoin miners that were stolen from Eindhoven in a home in Vlijmen. A man was arrested for the possession of stolen property, the police announced in a statement on Wednesday.

A bitcoin miner is a powerful computer used to approve global transactions in the bitcoin network. Owners who use their computers for bitcoin mining, are rewarded in the form of bitcoin or other cryptocurrency.

Six Dutch F-16 fighter jets, supported by a team of 150 people, were deployed this week to the Middle East as part of the international fight against terrorist organization ISIS. The jets departed from the Volkel Air Base on Wednesday morning, and will be stationed at an air base in Jordan.

A team of Dutch and international led by the Technical University - Eindhoven were putting the finishing touches on a gigantic tower of ice under construction since December 13 in Harbin, China. Dubbed the "Flamenco Ice Tower", the 30-meter tall structure was planned for the city's annual ice festival, and included six illuminated staircases made of transparent ice blocks to allow visitors to explore the shell structure.

For the first time in years, the number of burglaries in the Netherlands increased in 2016. Last year a total of 64 thousand burglary claims were filed with insurers, compared to 61 thousand in 2015, according to figures from the Dutch association of insurers VNV, ANP reports.

The police arrested a 15-year-old boy at Eindhoven Central Station on Sunday on suspicion that he stabbed an underage resident of the asylum center in Weert earlier in the day. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, the police said in a statement.

The stabbing happened around 5:00 p.m. The boy stabbed the asylum center resident and then fled by train to Eindhoven. He was arrested at the station and taken to a police station for questioning.

A majority in the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, voted for allowing municipalities to ban scooters from bicycle paths. Amsterdam already has a detailed plan ready for such a ban, and expects to be able to implement it, in combination with an obligation to wear a helmet on the road, by the middle of next year, the Volkskrant reports.

Subcontractors warned construction company BAM about possible building faults in a parking garage at Eindhoven Airport two months before it c, the subcontractors told EenVandaag. BAM acknowledges that cracks were already visible in March, but experts concluded that it was an "aesthetic issue" not a constructive problem, the company said on Thursday, NU.nl reports.

The court in Rotterdam sentenced 24-year-old Hasan A. from Eindhoven to 30 months in prison and institutionalized psychiatric treatment for preparing for terrorist crimes. The sentence is higher than the two years the Public Prosecutor demanded. A. must also complete a deradicalization trajectory, AD reports.

The police found 11 stowaways, including a pregnant woman, in the back of a refrigerated truck on the A67 in Bladel on Thursday evening. The Polish truck driver called the police when he heard voices in his trailer, RTL Nieuws reports.

The stowaways spent two days in the back of the truck. Fortunately, the cooling element was not turned on. All eleven people are adults and were in good health.

Police arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnapping of a young woman from a train station in Eindhoven. A 31-year-old Alkmaar man was taken into custody on October 26, which police made public on Friday. A 45-year-old was also in custody according to police.

The victim was abducted and pulled into a car by two men in the early morning hours of May 27. She was then kept captive for hours in a house in Son en Breugel, where police say she was raped. When she was released hours later, she immediately called authorities, according to a police report.

Environmental organization Milieudefensie is recruiting "air guards" in the seven large cities in the Netherlands - Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Den Bosch, Eindhoven and Arnhem. These air guards' job will be to make sure their municipalities take steps to improve air quality in their region, the Volkskrant reports.

The police arrested two 16-year-old boys from Eindhoven on suspicion of raping a 19-year-old woman at a bus station in the city in September.

The rape happened between 6:00 and 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 23rd. The young woman was walking from the city center towards the Neckerspoel bus station when two boys started harassing her. She was raped near the emergency stairs at the station's bicycle parking. The perpetrators fled afterwards.

A police officer in Eindhoven got his car stuck in a layer of newly poured concrete on Thursday. He was driving on a closed construction site, where a bus stop's paving was being replaced, when he drove right into the concrete, Johan de Krom of the responsible contractor company De Krom B.V. said to Omroep Brabant.

"We just finished the job and put our van at the front of the concrete so that no one could get through, but that police car just drove around us", De Krom said. The contractor and his colleague pulled the stuck police car out with their van.

NS and ProRail's on the route between Amsterdam, Utrecht, Den Bosch and Eindhoven, is showing very positive first results. The trains run mostly on time and cancellations are on par with the national average, ANP reports.

Six people were arrested in connection with a large investigation into organized cannabis cultivation in Noord-Brabant on Monday. The police also searched 16 properties in Tilburg, Goirle, Eindhoven and Kaatsheuvel. 

According to the police, a Tilburg detective team got wind of the suspects while breaking down a number of illegal cannabis plantations. The suspects are two women from Tilburg (35 and 66), a 44-year-old woman from Goirle, two men (40 and 52) and a 36-year-old woman from Eindhoven. They are all in custody.

An autumn storm that hit the Netherlands on Thursday mostly caused damage in the east and north of the country. The biggest disruption caused by the storm, was when tents set up for horse event CSI Salland were blown down in Mariënheem, sending a number of expensive horses running, RTL Nieuws reports.

The partial in May, was caused by a construction error, according to investigations carried out on behalf of Eindhoven Airport and construction company BAM. The floors of the parking garage, which was still under construction at the time of the collapse, were not strong enough, RTL Nieuws reports.

A 24-year-old teacher from Eindhoven, who was arrested in June for " in exchange for higher grades, is also suspected of sexually abusing his 7-year-old nephew, the Public Prosecutor revealed in a pro-forma hearing in the court in Den Bosch on Friday, Omroep Brabant reports.
