Dutch public works department Rijkswaterstaat is launching an investigation into what consequences small plastic particles that ended up in the Wadden sea after 291 containers fell off a ship in the North Sea last week will have for animals in the area. The investigation will be done in cooperation with scientific institute Waddenacademie in Leeuwarden.
Arjen Kamphuis, who disappeared in Norway on August 20th, may have hid in a cargo ship that left for Stavanger around the day of his disappearance, according to the residents of the port town of Rognan. The Norwegian police are investigating this scenario, assistant commissioner Bjarte Walle said to Het Parool.
A train was evacuated at Amsterdam Amstel station on Wednesday morning after passengers smelled gas. One passenger became unwell, Het Parool reports.
The train was traveling from Utrecht to Amsterdam when passengers smelled gas near Breukelen station around 8:50 a.m. When one passenger fell ill, it was decided to evacuate the train at Amstel station. Emergency services treated the unwell passenger at the station.
A freighter got stuck under a brand new bridge in the Groningen town of Noordhorn on Tuesday morning. The bridge is only 43 days old. No one was injured, AD reports.
The cargo ship was too tall to pass underneath the bridge. It came halfway through before it got stuck. Initially it was thought that a fire broke out on the ship, but this turned out not to be the case. The freighter will be pulled free this afternoon. The extent of damage to the new bridge is not yet clear.
The family of two sailors who went overboard while working on a Dutch ship in the Baltic Sea is distraught that the men were unable to be rescued. The two men are cousins, and have been lost at sea since Thursday morning, when they went over the side of the Marietje Andrea, a ship owned by Dutch firm Wagenborg.
