The fire brigades in Noord-Brabant and Limburg had their hands more than full with multiple wildfires on Sunday. The fires were caused by continuing drought in the two provinces, RTL Nieuws reports.

In Budel a large wildfire had fire departments from the entire region busy on Sunday. A drone team was deployed to get a complete picture of the burning area. About 10 hectares burnt down.

Around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday morning the police arrested a man in Tilburg suspected of being involved in a stabbing that happened in Alphen on Wednesday afternoon. Officers searched for the suspect, known to the police as armed and dangerous, for hours before finally tracking him down, NU.nl reports.

The stabbing happened around 3:00 p.m. in Alphen. A 21-year-old Tilburg resident was injured and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

A police officer fell ill while investigating possible drug waste dumped in Alphen on Wednesday morning. He was taken to hospital, the police said on Twitter.

Around 40 jerry cans of what is believed to be drug waste were dumped at the corner of Fransebaan and Oude Gilzerbaan.

The police closed down the road. A specialist company was called in to clean up the waste.

Entrepreneurs who were affected when two cranes collapsed while trying to place a new deck on the Juliana Bridge in Alphen aan den Rijn in August 2015, are demanding compensation from the municipality and contractors involved, a spokesperson for the Alphen municipality confirmed to NU.nl on Thursday.

After over seven hours of searching, emergency services found the body of a 14-year-old boy in lake 't Zand in Alphen late on Sunday night. The Tilburg boy disappeared under water while swimming with friends around 4:00 p.m. that afternoon. The lake is usually used for recreational purposes, like swimming, Omroep Brabant reports.

Musician Nathan Dillen was give a 380 euro fine for making music on a train from Amsterdam to his hometown of Kampen on Friday, RTL Nieuws reports.

The musician was heading home on the train with his brother when some fellow travelers asked if he would play them something on his clarinet. He did so with pleasure and, according to a friend on Facebook, the other passengers seemed to appreciate the music.

Another five men have been arrested for the theft of birds from Avifauna bird park in Alphen aan den Rijn - three men from Den Bosch, a man from Oss and a man from Drunen. A total of eight suspects have been arrested, three were released after questioning.

On Tuesday, November 11th, the police arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of birds from Avifauna in Alphen. The two suspects are a 20 year old man from Oss and a 24 year old man from Den Bosch.

In a raid on Friday, October 10th, the police found 14 of the 36 birds stolen from the bird park Avifauna in Alphen in a barn in Den Bosch.

Alphen aan den Rijn commemorates on Tuesday the shooting that took place two years ago in the shopping center Ridderhof.  At 12 noon there will be a private memorial service organized by the city for the survivors and victims. Bas Eenhoorn, mayor of Alphen aan den Rijn, will lay flowers together with the shopkeepers' association of Ridderhof.

In 2011 Tristan van der Vlis caused a massacre at the mall. In a hail of bullets, six innocent people were killed and 16 were injured. Van der Vlis then committed suicide at the checkout area of a supermarket.
