Five more suspects in exotic bird theft

Another five men have been arrested for the theft of birds from Avifauna bird park in Alphen aan den Rijn - three men from Den Bosch, a man from Oss and a man from Drunen. A total of eight suspects have been arrested, three were released after questioning. On 15 and 16 September 36 birds were stolen from Avifauna. 24 of these birds were recovered during the extensive investigation in Nijmegen, Den Bosch and Drunen. The latest arrest was that of a 32 year old man from Drunen last Tuesday. The magistrate ruled that he will remain in custody for at least another two weeks. Four men from Den Bosch and Oss were arrested earlier, the council ruled that they will remain in custody for 90 days. Another three suspects from Nuland, Drunen and Schijndel were also arrested, but were released again after interrogation. All the suspects were involved in one or more bird thefts, or the illegal possession of birds, or reselling the birds.
