Police arrest second suspect in fatal shooting of 24-year-old woman in Rotterdam
Police arrested a new suspect on Monday in connection with the death of Sam van Buul, a 24-year-old woman. The suspect is a 20-year-old man from Nijmegen, who had reportedly fled the scene after the shooting in Rotterdam. Authorities confirmed on Wednesday that he is currently being held under restrictions while his role in the case is being investigated, according to a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service (OM).
Sam, originally from Oss, lost her life in the early hours of Monday following a shooting at the Kralingseplein intersection in Rotterdam. Despite efforts to resuscitate her at the scene, she later died in the hospital, leaving behind a three-year-old son.
Friends and family expressed shock and grief over the tragedy, describing Sam as someone loved by everyone who knew her. “If anyone had their heart in the right place, it was her,” one man said in response to the news.
Earlier in the investigation, police arrested a 28-year-old man from Nijmegen. He was brought before a court on Wednesday and now faces charges of manslaughter and illegal possession of a weapon. Another suspect was also taken into custody immediately after the incident, but has since been released.
The 28-year-old man has been ordered to remain in pretrial detention for 14 days. The OM has not yet provided any details about the relationship between the suspects and the deceased woman.
