Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema will not ban alcohol on the city's canals. Barely a week after such a ban was suggested by the city council, Halsema described it as undesirable and disproportionate. 
"Measures [to combat nuisance] serve to enable Amsterdammers to enjoy their city freely. Only misconduct is curbed", she said in a letter to the city council, Het Parool reports.

The municipality of Amsterdam is investigating whether a partial alcohol ban is possible on the water in the city. That would mean that it will no longer be allowed to drink alcohol on boats in certain parts of the city, RTL Nieuws reports.

Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb does not want to go through with an alcohol ban set to be implemented in Wijkpark Oude Westen next year. It is better to offer help instead of fining homeless people caught violating the alcohol ban, he said in the city council meeting, RTV Rijnmond reports.

Four Dutch soldiers that form part of the NATO battalion in Lithuania, were sent back to the Netherlands after they were arrested for involvement in a drunken fight, according to newspaper Trouw.

Rotterdam will celebrate Feyenoord's first Eredivisie title in 18 years with an official congratulations ceremony on the Coolsingel today. The party officially starts at 11:30 a.m., with the team expected around noon. But fans started showing up at the Coolsingel from 6:30 a.m. this morning, according to the Volkskrant.

The municipality of Rotterdam decided to ban shops in the city center from selling alcohol on Sunday, when Feyenoord is playing against Heracles for the Dutch title. On Wednesday the police published photos of 12 men suspected of violence during riots in Rotterdam this past Sunday after Feyenoord lost against Excelsior. So far three suspects turned themselves in, according to the Telegraaf.

All 12 men are suspected of public violence. The photos of those who turned themselves in have since been removed from the police site.

Amsterdam is expanding its ban against drinking alcohol on the streets of the city center. From Wednesday you are not allowed to drink alcohol around the Albert Heijn behind the Royal Palace and on the streets around the Leidseplein, Het Parool reports.

An alcohol ban is already in place for the Leidseplein itself.
