First suspect arrested in 2017 Venlo murder

The police arrested a 28-year-old man from Rotterdam on Wednesday in connection with the murder of 44-year-old Kemal Zengin in Venlo in 2017. This is the first suspect arrested in this case.

The Rotterdam man is suspected of involvement in the theft of a car that was used in the murder. Zengin was gunned down on Klingerbergsingel in the Venlo neighborhood of Blerick in August 2017. The police believe it was a targeted attack.

Zengin's murder combined with a number of other violent incidents in the neighborhood, including the murder of a 22-year-old resident in November 2017, led to great unrest in Blerick.
