A Venlo man who found a grenade on Wednesday evening was instructed by the emergency services not to move after he encountered the explosive, according to his girlfriend. "When he called the emergency services, they said that he had to hold on to the grenade and not move. At one point he just lay down", she said to L1.
Some 120 people were evacuated on Veestraat in Venlo during the early hours of Thursday morning due to a grenade. One resident lay down on the grenade to keep it from causing too much damage if it exploded, according to the fire department. Defense's explosive disposal department later concluded that the grenade no longer contained any explosive material, NU.nl reports.
A 41-year-old woman was injured after she fell from a third floor balcony of an apartment building on Hogeweg in Venlo on Monday morning. The resident of the involved apartment, who was at home at the time of the fall, was arrested as a suspect, 1Limburg reports.

A quarrel between neighbors got completely out of hand in Venlo on Monday night. A man stabbed his neighbor with a knife, who then came outside with a firearm and shot his assailant, the police said in a statement.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Pieter Breughelstraat. A trauma helicopter was deployed to the scene. Both men were taken to hospital by ambulance. Their current condition is unknown.

A Dutch-Polish drug gang was busted in a combined effort by the Dutch, Polish and German police. On Wednesday morning the police arrested a 24-year-old man from Breda for violently robbing a 78-year-old woman in her home in Bladel last year. This robbery is linked to several other robberies committed based on information from Rabobank employees about customers who withdrew large sums of money from the bank.
The 78-year-old woman was seriously injured in the robbery in September 2017. The police believe she lay injured in her home for hours before being discovered, according to Omroep Brabant. The suspect was arrested in his home in Breda around 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

A man was seriously injured in an explosion in his third floor flat on Harry Meijerstraat in Venlo on Sunday afternoon. He was rushed to the burns center in Aken with a trauma helicopter, NU.nl reports.
The explosion caused a fire, which firefighters quickly managed to get under control. Seven people, including a number of first-responders, were checked over by paramedics because they breathed smoke.
The apartment in which the explosion happened was declared uninhabitable. The cause of the explosion is not yet known.

A 23-year-old man from Helmond was arrested for the fourth time on Tuesday on suspicion that he cut off a lock of a young woman's hair. His latest victim lost some of her hair on the train from Eindhoven to Venlo on August 12th, NU.nl reports.
The young woman pressed charges and the police launched an investigation. Witness statements led the police to the Helmond man. The police confirmed to the newspaper that he was previously arrested for doing, or attempting to do, the same thing to other women.
The man who was gunned down on Klingerbergsingel in Venlo early on Tuesday morning was 44-year-old Kemal Zengin, friends of the victim confirmed to De Limburger. The perpetrators were waiting for him and shot him several times at close range, according to local residents.
