The Maas river in Limburg has been contaminated with a pesticide, making it no longer suitable to serve as a source of drinking water, according to broadcaster 1Limburg. A quarrel between neighbors got completely out of hand in Venlo on Monday night. A man stabbed his neighbor with a knife, who then came outside with a firearm and shot his assailant, the police said in a statement.

On Wednesday morning the police arrested a 24-year-old man from Breda for violently robbing a 78-year-old woman in her home in Bladel last year. A man was seriously injured in an explosion in his third floor flat on Harry Meijerstraat in Venlo on Sunday afternoon. He was rushed to the burns center in Aken with a trauma helicopter, NU.nl reports.
The explosion caused a fire, which firefighters quickly managed to get under control. Seven people, including a number of first-responders, were checked over by paramedics because they breathed smoke.
The apartment in which the explosion happened was declared uninhabitable. The cause of the explosion is not yet known.
