Sunny spells and warm weather ahead, KNMI forecasts summer-like conditions
Warmer weather is expected in the Netherlands in the next week. Temperatures of up to 25 degrees °C are possible, according to the weather forecast by the KNMI meteorological weather station.
The next two days will be partly cloudy with some sun, occasional light rain showers, and breezy gusts. This will be followed by warmer weather during Easter weekend. It will be mostly dry and partly sunny with temperatures around 12 °C to 15 °C.
On Tuesday, the temperatures are expected to rise to their highest point with sunshine increasing and highs near 22 °C in some areas of the Netherlands, with the KNMI stating that it could go as high as 25 °C.
Provinces such as Limburg and Noord-Brabant are more likely to see a ‘summer day’ of 25 °C or above compared to the coastal regions. Inland regions may experience a summer-like feel, but the coast usually stays a few degrees cooler because of the still-chilly North Sea.
April typically brings just one ‘summer day’ of 25 °C or more in the Netherlands, making an early spring heatwave a rare occurrence.
De Bilt’s highest temperature ever recorded in April is 28.9 °C, on April 15, 2007. Nationwide, the record for the month stands at 32.2 °C, reached on April 21, 1968, in Gemert and Venlo.
In early April, the UV index can rise to 3 or 4, so unprotected skin may burn in just 30 to 60 minutes. Meteorologists recommend applying sunscreen, as the skin is still sensitive after the winter months.
According to the KNMI, April is still a highly changeable month. A period of warmth can suddenly give way to a northerly wind, which may bring wintry showers or nighttime frost.
