Five teenagers arrested for gay bashing of 16-year-old
The police arrested five teenagers for beating up a 16-year-old boy in Venlo “due to his sexual orientation.” The suspects are between the ages of 13 and 18, the police said on Friday.
The attack happened at the Werf in Venlo, near the Maas, on Monday. “The reason for the assault was a rumor that was a rumor that was spread about the victim,” the police said. The group surrounded the 16-year-old and punched and kicked him, the police said.
The suspects were arrested and questioned. One of them was already under house arrest, wearing an ankle monitor. The other four suspects were released after questioning to await their day in court. The one with the ankle monitor is still in custody pending a remand hearing.
“Because the victim and the suspects are all minors, no further details can be provided,” the police said.
