Woman gives birth on N44 highway in Wassenaar amid extreme heat

A woman gave birth to a son Friday along the N44 highway in Wassenaar after going into labor inside a car during extreme Code Red heat, Dutch police said. Authorities said both mother and child are doing well, RTL reported. The baby is officially allowed to say he was born in Wassenaar, the police joked.

Police said they were dispatched after receiving an urgent report of a woman in active labor inside a vehicle on the N44. Emergency medical services arrived quickly and assisted at the scene, where the baby was delivered along the roadside.

Bystanders also helped at the scene, bringing water and even a watermelon to help cool those involved.

The newborn received two stuffed animals from responders—police and ambulance teddy bears. Police said they are curious which one the child will prefer.
