Man, 33, in custody for planning to kill Dutch Princesses Amalia and Alexia

A 33-year-old man is in custody for planning to attack and kill Dutch Princesses Amalia (22) and Alexia (20) earlier this year, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) revealed. The first preliminary hearing against the man is scheduled for Monday, May 4.

According to the OM, the man was arrested in The Hague in early February. He had two axes with him. The name “Alexia” was carved into one of the axes, as were the words “Mossad” and “Sieg Heil.” Mossad is Israel’s intelligence agency, and Sieg Heil was the Nazi greeting in the Second World War.

The man was also carrying a handwritten document containing, among other things, the names Amalia and Alexia, and the word “Bloedbad,” which translates to Bloodbath.

The OM believes that these findings point to a possible plan to attack the elder two of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima’s three daughters.

The authorities have not revealed anything about the man’s possible motive. More will become clear in the hearing on Monday, which is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.

This is not the first time that Crown Princess Amalia has faced threats. She has been living under heightened security for some time. In 2022, she had to interrupt her plans to move into student accommodation in Amsterdam and went into hiding.

It later became known that, due to the threats, she lived and studied in Madrid for a year, where she could have more freedom of movement than in the Netherlands. Heightened security measures made it possible for her to come home and live and study in the Netherlands again.
