Ten young suspects still in custody for inciting terrorist acts on social media
Of the 14 mostly minor suspects arrested last week on suspicion of incitement to terrorism on social media, ten are still in custody. The other four have been released from custody without arraignment, but remain suspects in the case, said a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service (OM). The suspects are between 14 and 30 years old.
The police made the arrests on Tuesday at various locations. The suspects are accused of trying to incite others to commit terrorist crimes on TikTok, among other things.
Various police units are investigating. Eight arrests were made by the National Investigation Team and Intervention Unit (LO). Seven of them were arraigned by the examining magistrate on Friday, who decided to extend their pre-trial detention by 14 days. The seven are all minors. The eighth suspect was released before appearing before the magistrate.
Two suspects arrested by the Rotterdam police will remain in pre-trial detention. This also applies to the suspect arrested by the police in Amsterdam. The police in The Hague arrested three suspects. They have been released again.
The OM will not make any further statements due to the young age of some of the suspects and the ongoing investigations.
