After-school care worker in The Hague arrested for sexually abusing two children
The police arrested a 67-year-old man for sexually abusing two children at an after-school care center in The Hague, where he worked. The man is also suspected of creating child sexual abuse images of the children, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) reported on Tuesday.
The after-school care center reported the man to the police in August after a colleague saw him record a video under suspicious circumstances.
The police seized all data storage devices from the suspect’s home and found several videos “that could be classified as child sexual abuse images,” the OM said. “The videos show two children being secretly filmed and groped over their clothing.”
Investigators identified the two children and notified their parents. The parents have pressed charges against the man.
The suspect was arrested on Friday and arraigned on Monday. The magistrate remanded him into pre-trial custody for another 14 days.
The man has not worked at the after-school care center since the center filed the police report in August. The authorities did not say which after-school center was involved.
The municipality of The Hague told ANP that this was a serious and sad case. “We deeply sympathize with the children and their parents who are directly involved,” a municipal spokesperson told the news wire.
The municipality said that the after-school center is “closely involved in the situation” and actively informed parents about what was going on, “referring them to appropriate forms of support where necessary.”
