Suspects in Belgian cop's death arrested in Limburg

The police arrested two men in Limburg for suspected involvement in the death of a Belgian police officer in Spa during the early hours of Sunday morning, the Public Prosecutor in Verviers said on Monday. Belgium will request their extradition, De Limburger reports.

That brings the total number of arrested suspects to three. 36-year-old Dutch man Ivo T. was arrested in Belgium on Sunday morning.

Ivo T. and a group of Dutch people were partying in Spa on Saturday night. Around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday morning they were refused entry to a pub on Avenue Reine Astrid. The pub owner called the police, reporting that the Dutch may be armed. When the police arrived, the Dutch were already in a taxi. Police officer Amaury Delrez went to the taxi to check the Dutch. One of the people in the taxi pulled a gun and shot the police officer. He was hit in the head and died of his injuries.

Who exactly fired the fatal shot is not yet clear.
