Trooper, 7 others in drug smuggling ring

A member of the National Police Internal Investigations Department (Rijksrecherche) has been arrested on suspicion of smuggling drugs via Schiphol airport. Six others were also arrested after an investigation by a team of National Military Police, FIOD and Rijksrecherche. The investigation was launched after a tip revealed the alleged drug smuggling operation. Investigators found the suspects as they were preparing to import quantities of cocaine. All seven of the suspects were taken into custody over the last few weeks. They range from 27 to 54 years of age, and live in Culemborg, Heeswijk-Dinther, Ede and Maastricht. Cash and small quantities of drugs were found in several home raids. There may be more arrests yet to come in this ongoing investigation, led by the Public Prosecution Authority North-Holland. The identities of the suspects have not yet been announced.
