A man acting in a threatening manner was shot at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on Friday, the Marechausse said in a statement. The situation was under control and returned to safety following the incident, the military branch announced on Twitter just after 4 p.m.

The suspect was overpowered and apprehended, they said. No further comment was made, but the Marechaussee said it would release further details later.

The Schiphol Plaza was evacuated following the incident.

A 25-year-old homeless man was claiming to be a terrorist caused the evacuation of Schiphol Airport on Tuesday night, the Marechaussee announced on Wednesday. The man made the statement to an officer for the military branch, which is tasked with policing airports in the Netherlands.

The M gates in the Departures 3 terminal at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam was evacuated Monday night amid reports of a passenger who made it past a security checkpoint, but was later determined to be suspicious because of her mobile phone case with a photo of a gun on it. All passengers were ordered re-screened at about 9:30 p.m. by the Koninklijke Marechaussee, the branch of the military that provides policing at Dutch airports.
