Both Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Foreign Affairs Minister Bert Koenders spoke out against a massive bombing in the Afghan capital of Kabul this morning that left at least 80 people dead and an estimated 364 people wounded. The attack was committed with a tanker during morning rush hour, in an area that houses many embassies and ministries, AD reports. 

"Terrible attack in Kabul. A number of international partners also hit hard. Our thoughts go out to all the victims", Rutte said on Twitter.

Dutch business man Ibrahim A. is considering appealing against a Hague court ruling that awarded him 1.2 million euros in compensation for damages incurred while working as a spy for military intelligence service MIVD in Afghanistan in 2006 and 2007. According to him, the compensation is not enough, he said to newspaper AD.

A small contingency of Dutch soldiers were dispatched to Kunduz, Afghanistan, to advise that nation's army as it attempts a counter-offensive against the Taliban in the northern city. Speaking at the lower house of Parliament on Wednesday, Minister of Defense Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert emphasized that the Netherlands is not engaged in any fighting, but serving strictly as strategic counsel.
