The police intercepted a large shipment containing hundreds of skins of snakes, iguanas and other protected reptiles. The shipment, sent from Indonesia to Eindhoven, was destined to become jackets for "notorious" outlaw motorcycle gangs in the Netherlands, the police said in a statement on Tuesday. A suspect was arrested in Eindhoven last week.
Two king pythons were found dumped on the street in a residential neighborhood in Amsterdam on Saturday, according to Animal Ambulance Amsterdam.
The animal ambulance responded ot the residential neighborhood after receiving a report of "two large snakes" on the street. Rescuers were deployed, expecting to find grass snakes that naturally occur in Amsterdam. "On arrival we did not find grass snakes, but two king pythons." Animal Ambulance Amsterdam said on Facebook.
The town of Made in Brabant is living in fear and surprise after the escape of a venomous snake. The municipality has sounded the alarm, and residents have been told to keep doors and windows closed.
200 caimans and three snakes that arrived at Schiphol on transit to the Ukraine on Thursday, had been left out in the freezing cold for 1.5 hours. 48 caimans had died en route; three snakes and 14 other caimans are not expected to survive either. It is the second such find in one month. On 29 November authorities already found 444 caimans from Guyana.
