An explosion at the Mad Fox club early Friday morning was caused by a live hand grenade. There were no injuries reported in the incident, but it was followed up by another report later in the day of a hand grenade seen in front of the club's front door.

Amsterdam's mayor, Femke Halsema, ordered the club shut down, according to a statement from her office released late on Friday. The Spuistraat club is located underneath the luxury W Hotel in Amsterdam. It will be kept closed for an indefinite period of time to protect the peace.

After years of city hall discussions and coy council debates with the national government, Amsterdam's ban against scooters using bike paths goes into effect on Monday. The new traffic rules stipulate that all scooter users, including those riding slower vehicles with blue license plates, will have to wear a helmet and drive on the street.
Scooter users violating the new rules will face a 95 euro fine, plus administration fees.

A lack of available primary school teachers forced the Rudolf Steinerschool in Haarlem to put an early end to its Group 7 class on Thursday. The students from the Waldorf-style education program will be redistributed among similar schools in Haarlem, Hillegom, and Hoofddorp, up to 15 kilometers away.

"We've searched all over the country," said Lida Berkhout, the school's deputy director. "From Groningen to Brabant," she told the Volkskrant.

Four people were injured Wednesday morning when an explosion took place at a Tata Steel facility in Velsen-Noord, Noord Holland. All four of the victims are employees who were transported to area hospitals, the company said. Two suspects were arrested in Amsterdam this week in connection with the coordinated terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015. The attacks killed 130 victims and injured 413 more. Seven suspects died in the incidents.
Police detained a two men, aged 29 and 31, in Amsterdam on Tuesday. A Rotterdam court ordered the younger man to remain in confinement for the next two weeks, according to the Public Prosecutor's office (OM). He is in solitary confinement to prevent any attempts to corrupt an ongoing investigation.

A police training session has prompted an internal investigation after live ammunition suddenly exploded when a bullet cartridge was removed from a weapon. The incident sent shrapnel from the cartridge into a police officer's protective equipment, though there were no injuries.

The accident happened last week as an Amsterdam tactical unit was training in Ossendrecht, Noord-Brabant. The explosion took place when a clip fell to the ground, police confirmed to both nu.nl and newspaper AD.
