The Apple Store on Leidseplein in Amsterdam was evacuated on Sunday afternoon after an iPad exploded. Three people had breathing problems after the incident, AT5 reports.

Employees put the iPad in a sand-filled container, but that proved to be insufficient. "It probably involved a leaking battery pack", the fire department said on Twitter. The breathing problems were likely caused by something leaking from the iPad.

At night the Amsterdam city center devolves into "lawlessness" to such an extent that the police can no longer handle it, Amsterdam Ombudsman Arre Zuurmond said to Trouw. The police confirmed his findings to the newspaper.

After multiple complaints from local residents, especially residents around the Red Light District and Leidseplein, Zuurmond decided to rent a home in the Red Light District to experience the situation for himself.

The police arrested a 17-year-old boy suspected of leaving a hand grenade at Amsterdam club In the City almost exactly a year ago. The boy was arrested in the Pijp area in the Dutch capital by a SWAT team around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the police announced on Wednesday.

The Amsterdam police arrested a total of 30 people during and after the public viewing of the Europa League finals on the Museuplein on Wednesday night. After Ajax lost the title to Manchester United (2-0), the Dutch capital quickly and calmly ran empty, ANP reports.

Arrests were made for public intoxication, insults and setting a parasol on fire, among other things. One police officer was assaulted. "For us this is really an ordinary very busy Saturday night", the police said around midnight. By 1:00 a.m. Amsterdam was mostly empty and quiet, according to the news wire.

Amsterdam is expanding its ban against drinking alcohol on the streets of the city center. From Wednesday you are not allowed to drink alcohol around the Albert Heijn behind the Royal Palace and on the streets around the Leidseplein, Het Parool reports.

An alcohol ban is already in place for the Leidseplein itself.

An explosive found in Amsterdam's In The City Cafe on Kleine Gartmanplantsoen on Wednesday was a hand grenade, the police confirmed, according to NOS.

The cafe and surrounding area following the discovery of the explosive and closed down for several hours while an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team disarmed it.

Police responding to Amsterdam's Leideplein entertainment district found a "small explosive" on the Kleine Gartmanplantsoen. The explosive was discovered in a hotel and catering facility, police said on Twitter at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday. An explosives disposal unit was en route to the scene, police added.

Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan has announced that restaurants, bars, and cafes will be allowed to stay open for an hour later than usual to show Dutch matches in the knockout stages of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. They will also be permitted to put up additional TVs and big screens for the tournament. Cafés with a licensed terrace or patio may place TVs outside, but outside beer taps are still not permitted, according to Dutch newspaper het Parool.

A suspicious object discovered in a car on Lijnbaansgracht in Amsterdam led police to evacuate part of the surrounding area early Monday morning. The alarm was called in just before 3:30 a.m. after "a suspicious situation arose which involved a car" in traffic, a police spokesman told broadcaster RTV Noord Holland.
