Monument to killed crime reporter Peter R. de Vries set for July unveiling in Amsterdam
The monument to Peter R. de Vries will be unveiled in Amsterdam on July 15. The municipality of Amsterdam confirmed the ceremony will take place at 3 p.m after the story was first reported by RTL Boulevard.
The date marks three years since the crime reporter's death. De Vries was shot on a street close to the RTL Boulevard studio on Leidseplein. The shooting happened on July 6, 2021, after he recorded an episode of the show.
He died in a hospital nine days later. It was previously announced that the monument would be placed on Leidseplein, near the former RTL Boulevard studio.
The monument was made by artist Rini Hurkmans and consists of two bronze hands holding each other. "It shows the helping hand," Peter's son, Royce de Vries, said last year.
The hands contain "rules of life" in 41 languages , which De Vries gave as advice in his last letter to his children.
