While over half a million phone calls were made this week by Netherlands residents eager to be tested for Covid-19, only some 10,000 appointments were carried out since the hotline was opened on Monday, according to a report by NOS.

A hotline will be opened from Monday for employees in the catering sector to share their experiences relating to public health and safety as restaurants and cafes begin to reopen across the Netherlands. Led by catering workers union FNV Horeca, the effort aims to glean insights into how staff are being tasked with responding to the pandemic.

"Many catering establishments will open their doors [from Monday] and with this hotline FNV Horeca will keep a finger on the pulse whether employees think they can do their work safely and healthily," the group said in a statement.

The Forced Adoption hotline received 500 reports since it opened in October, Minister Sander Dekker for Legal Protection confirmed to NOS. The hotline is part of two investigations into Dutch mothers who were pressured into giving their child up for adoption between 1956 and 1984. An estimated 15 thousand children were given up in this way, according to the broadcaster.

A hotline for mothers in the Netherlands who were pressured to give up their children for adoption received over 150 reports since it launched on October 1st. The Ministry of Justice and Security, which launched the hotline as part of a major investigation into abuses in domestic adoption from 1956 to 1984, is surprised by the number of reports, RTL Nieuws reports.

Foundation Join Us launched a hotline for young people struggling with loneliness. It is estimated that tens of thousands of young people between the ages of 12 and 30 are lonely in the Netherlands. "The hotline should make the urgency of the problem clear, also to politicians", Jolanda van Gerwe, initiator of Join Us and co-founder of the hotline, said to RTL Nieuws.

Amsterdam student union ASVA opened a hotline for unsafe situations "on and around student campuses". This follows a series of violent incidents in a short tie, especially around the Spinoza Campus in Bijlmer, spokesperson Alba van Vliet said to NH Nieuws. 

A 35-year-old woman was recently stabbed to death near the Spinoza Campus. Two students were pulled off their bikes. And another student was hit by a stray bullet while she was watching television in her room, according to ASVA.

The Netherlands' new hotline for pregnancy discrimination received over 550 reports from women in just two weeks, the College of Human Rights revealed on Friday, ANP reports.

The bulk of the reports came from women with a temporary or flexible contract, and women working through a temporary employment agency.

"The high number of reports that came in in a relatively short time stresses the urgency of the problem", the college said, according to the news wire. "It makes clear that the current approach to pregnancy discrimination needs to be tightened further."

Union CNV is launching a hotline where workers in the hospitality industry can report exploitation. This follows whistleblower Tiberiu Palade revealing appalling abuses in an number of Amsterdam cafes and restaurants, ranging from threats and intimidation to salaries below the minimum wage, on Brandpunt on Tuesday. Palade called the situation "modern slavery", Het Parool reports.

Labor union CNV is starting a hotline for people dealing with employment abuses as a result of the new Work and Security law that comes into effect on July 1, the union said on Friday morning. The law makes it easier for flexible contract workers, freelancers and temporary hires to get severance packages if they are let go.

According to a spokesperson for the The Dutch Child Porn Hotline, the Netherlands is the worst offender for child porn in all of Europe. The Hotline claims that last year, a record amount of reports of child porn on the internet came in. At 23,278, this is a rise of almost 20 percent.

Most of the employers take no additional measures during extreme heat at the workplace. This says FNV on Thursday based on the initial results of the Hotline Summer Heat (Zomerhitte).

The union opened two weeks ago a hotline where employees can complain about high temperatures at their workplace. Meanwhile, a questionnaire was completed by 612 people. Of those, 61 percent indicated that their employer has done nothing against the extreme heat
