Summer temperatures of up to 33 degrees expected in the Netherlands this week triggered national health institute RIVM to issue a heat warning for most of the Netherlands. The heat warning is in effect for the seven provinces in central and southern Netherlands between Monday and Thursday, NU.nl reports.
During the last blast of summer weather this week in the Netherlands, lifeguards had to rescue or help at least 700 people. That number will increase as the week is not over yet and some stations haven't submitted their figures
The A58 highway is closed near Tilburg in the direction of Breda on Friday morning due to an accident involving several cars. Traffic information service ANWB reports that people were injured, though how many people and the extent of their injuries are unclear. Emergency services are on site.
Participants of the Vierdaagse marches walking 30 and 40 kilometers on Wednesday, were allowed to start 30 minutes earlier due to a heat warning in effect for Gelderland and Brabant. The organizers of the largest multi-day walking event in the world decided to allow the earlier start as the second day of the marches passes through those two provinces
Meteorological institute KNMI issued a code yellow warning for persistent heat in Noord-Brabant, Limburg, Gelderland and Overijssel, where temperatures up to 35 degrees Celsius can be expected on Wednesday. The rest of the country can also expect a tropically warm day with temperatures above 30 degrees.
