Multiple car accident closes Dutch highway
The A58 highway is closed near Tilburg in the direction of Breda on Friday morning due to an accident involving several cars. Traffic information service ANWB reports that people were injured, though how many people and the extent of their injuries are unclear. Emergency services are on site.
According to ANP, the police could not immediately provide more information.
A traffic jam of over 5 kilometers already formed behind the accident between Tilburg Centrum-West and Tilburg Reeshof. "Simply joining the traffic jam on the A58 Tilburg towards Breda does not make sense. The road is closed. Detour via Den Bosch is better", the ANWB writes on Twitter.
Traffic on the Netherlands' roads is expected to be busier than usual today. School holidays start in Zuid-Nederland and in the middle of the country the construction industry holiday is starting. The ANWB also expects more traffic than usual around Nijmegen because of the end of the Vierdaagse marches and music festival Zwarte Cross in Achterhoek.
The weather can also add to the traffic problems on Friday morning. Meteorological institute issued a code yellow storm warning for much of the country for Friday morning and then again for Friday afternoon. A heat warning is also still in effect for the provinces of Noord-Brabant, Gelderland, Overijssel and Limburg.
