A 68-year-old woman was attacked by a dog on Kouterstraat in Rotterdam on Monday afternoon. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries, the Telegraaf reports.

The woman was walking on the street around 3:00 p.m. when the dog suddenly attacked her, according to the newspaper. Witnesses immediately called the police. The victim hid in a house while bystanders kept the dog under control.

Emergency services responded to the scene. The woman was taken to the Maasstad Hospital Rotterdam with bites to her arm and abdomen.

A 19-year-old Palestinian man is demanding 11 thousand euros in damages from a Dutch company that delivers dogs to the Israeli army. One of these dogs bit him three years ago and left him seriously injured and permanently traumatized, he says. The company, Four Winds K9 in Noord-Brabant, denies liability, AD reports.

The municipality of Rotterdam is launching an action plan against aggressive dogs. The plan consists of a number of measures aimed at preventing dog bites. "We don't want to take action only after a serious bite incident occurred, but rather prevent it", alderman Joost Eerdmans said, according to RTV Rijnmond. "That's why we prepared the 'Aggressive Dog Plan of Action' to preventatively tackle dangerous dogs."

An 8-year-old girl was seriously injured when an aggressive dog attacked her in a park in Rotterdam on Wednesday. A 69-year-old man from Rotterdam, who was walking the dog at the time, was arrested, AD reports.

The girl was playing with friends in a park on Hundsonstraat when the dog grabbed her. The dog bit the child's arm, and refused to let go. A bystander managed to free the girl by hitting the dog with a stick and a tile.

The child was rushed to a hospital for treatment. She is doing well under the circumstances, the police said on Thursday.

On Tuesday a dog owner abandoned a wounded 6-year-old girl after her dog attacked the child on the outskirts of Diepenheim, Overijssel. The dog was not on a leash when it attacked the girl, leaving her with deep bites on her leg, the police said.

The incident happened around 5:00 p.m. in a wooded area on Kleidijk. The owner of the dog, an older woman of small stature, took her dog and left the girl to her fate. The girl could not tell the police what type of dog it was, only that it was a big dark colored dog with light spots. 

The girl was treated in hospital.

In an effort to reduce the number of serious dog bites a year, the Netherlands may soon compile a list of "high risk" dogs for which stricter rules will apply, according to advise the council for animal affairs RDA sent to the government, RTL Nieuws reports.

The list of high risk dogs is still being prepared. For the list experts assess dog breeds on how likely they are to bite and what the impact of a bite can be. The owners of dogs on the list will be subject to stricter rules and measures.
