Woman whose baby was killed by a dog in Emmeloord to be prosecuted for culpable homicide
A 34-year-old woman from Emmeloord whose baby was bitten to death by a dog in August will be prosecuted. The dog, which is a mix of an American Staffordshire terrier and a pitbull, has been put down.
The woman is being charged with "culpable homicide and failure to ensure that a dangerous animal is kept harmless," a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service said. The spokesperson confirmed earlier reporting by regional broadcaster Omroep Flevoland.
The incident happened at the end of August in an apartment on Staalstraat. The victim was brought to the Antonius hospital in Emmeloord. Whether the child was alive upon arrival at the hospital was never publicly revealed.
An examination and autopsy on the child's body revealed that it had been bitten to death. The baby's age was never disclosed.
The woman's case will be heard on September 25 in the District Court in Lelystad.
